What gets apartment EV charging moving? Climate Salad joins national effort to share the answers

Knowledge-sharing partnership with Alchemy Charge will examine costs, approval barriers and delivery approaches through ARENA-backed Strata Assist program.

SYDNEY - Climate Salad will help turn the experience of delivering apartment electric vehicle charging into practical industry knowledge through its partnership with Alchemy Charge on the national Strata Assist program.

The work will focus on questions that can determine whether charging projects progress: what delays decisions, what drives installation costs and which approaches help residents and owners corporations move forward.

Led by Alchemy Charge, the $7.4 million program has secured $2 million in co-funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).

“Getting a climate solution into use means understanding the decisions, costs and constraints surrounding it,” said Mick Liubinskas, Climate Salad CEO.

“Apartment EV charging is a clear example. The equipment matters, but so do building conditions, access to information and the way people reach a decision together.”

Evelina Lekesiute, Program and Research Manager at Climate Salad will be leading the knowledge sharing element of this project. “By capturing and sharing those lessons, we can help the wider industry make better decisions about how to deliver charging,” she said.

Around 4.1 million Australians, about 15% of the population, live in strata, according to UNSW City Futures Research Centre’s Australasian Strata Insights 2024, revised October 2025. The scale makes practical knowledge about apartment charging relevant well beyond individual installations.

Through its knowledge-sharing role, Climate Salad will help translate program findings into resources for residents, strata managers, owners corporations, installers, charging operators and policymakers.

The aim is to reduce uncertainty around future projects and support faster, more cost-effective delivery by making evidence about costs, governance barriers and deployment approaches available to others.

The Strata Assist program combines Alchemy Charge’s standalone digital engagement platform with affordable SmartPoint charging infrastructure.

The platform, scheduled to launch on 1 February 2027, is being developed to coordinate information, communication, quoting and approval workflows, with installation tracking and compliance processes.

SmartPoint technology uses metered smart power sockets and cloud-based load management to support charging within assessed building capacity, helping reduce the need for costly electrical upgrades where site conditions allow.

“We want to understand where the process becomes difficult and what helps communities get through it,” said Yasemin Selvi, CEO of Alchemy Charge.

“Sharing that knowledge is an important part of the program. Climate Salad will help turn delivery experience into insights that others can use, extending the value beyond the projects we undertake.”

The program’s findings will help build understanding of how digital engagement and managed charging can work together to overcome barriers to EV adoption and support a lower-emissions future.

Other program partners include Origin Energy and NHP.
