What are trade missions?

Climate Salad's International Trade Missions provide access to top climate tech conferences, customer introductions and mentorship for ventures to succeed on a global scale. Trade missions are for high-potential Australian climate tech ventures interested in expanding to new international markets, and include pre-trip mentoring and market intelligence workshops to prepare you for a week of in-country education, exposure, introductions and networking.

With the support of the Climate Salad team, experienced mentors and industry experts, you'll have the resources and guidance you need to navigate new markets and drive growth.

Our International Missions are designed to assist founders who are ready to take their climate tech company global within the next 12 months. Find out more about our eligibility criteria below.

Why

Our team, mentors and investors understand the unique challenges that come with scaling a climate tech business, particularly into new international markets, and we're here to help.

We're 100% focussed on climate solutions and know that climate technology is different from normal tech. It is often deep tech, may be hardware, and can be complicated and messy. It can require consumer behaviour change and new measurement protocols. It also needs to get to scale fast in order to avert the climate crisis. It needs a new approach.

This is why we have designed trade missions that favours pre-market support centred around high-value mentorship, and a well-developed in-country program of events. This allows us to help you gain maximum value from an international mission.

What to expect
  • Pre-trip mentoring with market specialists
  • Flexible program components
  • Core relationships with highly experienced and relevant mentors
  • Core relationships with fellow cohort founders
  • International network of potential partners
  • Practical support in key areas such as setting up operations in a new market, acquiring your first international team member, closing your first overseas customer

Trade Mission Focus Areas

Market Intelligence

Access pre-trip workshops run by market experts to equip you with valuable market knowledge, all before you travel. You will tap into expert subject-matter guidance on subjects such as local tax laws or hiring your first overseas team member.

Mentoring

Climate Salad has over 100 expert mentors. Learn from in-country mentors, EIRs, and founders who have already successfully scaled into international markets.

Product Exposure

Showcase your climate solution to hundreds of people at world leading climate tech conferences. To give you the best opportunity for product exposure, each trade mission will give you access to participate in a climate tech activation in-market

Networks

Building community is a powerful way to access valuable information, resources and opportunities, or just get moral support. Becoming a member of a trade mission cohort equips ventures with a strong and supportive network of peers and experts.

Customers

Customers are core to the success of your business. They prove that your solution addresses a real need, and are key to achieving sustainable, scalable and profitable growth. Each trade mission has a strong focus on potential customer introductions and meaningful connections.

Global Growth

Launching successfully in big global markets is key to having an outsized climate impact. Trade missions will equip you with the knowledge and connections needed to realise your first few steps in your venture's global growth journey.

Who are trade missions for?

Who it is for
  • Australian companies
  • Founders who have ambition for strong global impact and have created a strong team
  • Companies that are financially stable
  • Climate tech companies have built a scalable tech-enabled product to solve sustainability problems*
  • Companies that are ready to expand into global markets within the next 12 months
  • Hardware companies and founders of diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply
Who it isn't for
  • Pre-product companies - if your product is not ready to show customers or be sold to customers, you’re probably too early
  • Founders who are unable to cover their travel costs
  • Companies not ready to expand internationally within 12 months
  • Companies with a local or national focus
  • Non-climate focused companies
  • Services-based or advisory companies

*It's important to know that 'climate tech' is still being defined, as the technologies and industry is still evolving. However, Climate Salad defines climate tech as a scalable tech-enabled product (software or hardware) that helps solve climate or environmental problems. Companies interesting in attending trade missions may tackle any sector of climate tech, including decarbonisation, natural capital, carbon removal, adaptation or mitigation.

Companies must be able to cover all travel and accomodation costs
