With a remarkable 22-year career in the climate space, Ilea Buffier stands as a trailblazer in the intersection of sustainability and innovation. Her journey began in the early 2000s, when, driven by an unwavering passion to leverage the power of business to address climate change, she entered the emerging field of carbon accounting to help align corporate performance with environmental responsibility.
Ilea is a Climate Active Registered Consultant, a Fellow of the AustralianInstitute of Company Directors and serves on several boards including the ACTGovernment’s Energy Innovation Fund.Â
As the founder and Managing Director of Evalue8 Sustainability, she has built a successful software company that empowers businesses of all sizes to measure, manage, and reduce their carbon footprint with ease. Evalue8’s platform provides a frictionless start for any business to assess their environmental impact, enabling them to make informed decisions about mitigating their carbon emissions and contributing to global climate action.
Under her leadership, Evalue8 has empowered many businesses to take their first step towards environmental accountability. Ilea’s work has garnered widespread acclaim, with numerous prestigious accolades recognising her contributions to climate technology and sustainability. Just last week, she received the Innovation Business of the Year and Sustainability Business of the Year awards at the Canberra Women in Business (CWB) Awards, honouring her impact on both technological advancement and environmental responsibility. She was also named co-winner of the EY Foundry Program's Sustainability category in 2022, celebrating her leadership in creating a scalable, sustainable business model that addresses critical global issues. Additionally, Microsoft selected Evalue8 Sustainability as one of only 20 apps globally to feature in its 2020 Build for 2030 campaign, representing Sustainable Development Goal #13 on ClimateAction. This recognition placed Evalue8 among an elite group of innovators committed to advancing a sustainable future.
Ilea’s pioneering influence dates back two decades when she won a prestigious Telstra Businesswoman’s Award in 2004 and has been an angel investor in the climate tech space since 2006.
Like other female founders, Ilea has had to navigate significant barriers that have strengthened her resolve to mentor and support women in the climate-tech and wider entrepreneurship sector. As a leader, Ilea is a vocal advocate for more inclusive business ecosystems and actively works to create spaces where female entrepreneurs are empowered and supported.
