Cloud communications platform, Twilio, jumped on board to sponsor our inaugural Climate Tech Showcase and awards presenting the award for Climate Tech mentor 2021. This year they're offering our members over $1,500 USD in Twilio credit.
We caught up with Twilio Director of Startups, Brendan Yell on why Climate Tech is important to them.
Why is supporting a Climate Tech community important to you as a business?
Twilio has always had an attitude that we can build a business and do good. Our Twilio.org initiative helps nonprofits engage with their community at very low cost. Supporting companies to solve this global issue fits very well for us as a company.
And why is it important for Twilio to support and recognise the Climate Tech Mentor Award 2021?
A startup founder cannot achieve success by themselves. It takes a village to raise a child and this is also true for companies. Mentors that give their time for free and share their knowledge and experience are vital to any startup ecosystem.
What are some of the opportunities you see coming out of Climate Tech?
Twilio powers digital transformation and most digital transformation benefits the environment. The pandemic has accelerated societies digital transformation by 6-10 years meaning less energy consumption required for travel and resources consumed.
What excites you most about Climate Tech in Australia and New Zealand?
I think Australia has the biggest opportunity of any country in the world. We have an abundance of sun and wind, and unfortunately coal and gas. As a country we can have a large impact on shifting the energy mix.
