Founded in Sydney, by Alex Logan and Rory Oxenham, Cecil Earth is a global climate tech start up that builds natural capital management software. Since launching the platform in June 2021, Cecil Earth has on-boarded over 1,000 natural capital projects across 1 million hectares of agricultural and forestry land in Australia, United Kingdom and Germany.
We're also incredibly chuffed that Cecil Earth have come on board to sponsor our inaugural Showcase and Climate Tech Awards. We caught up with the founders, Alex and Rory, to chat about why they strongly believe in supporting their Climate Tech community.
- What inspired you down the Climate Tech path for your entrepreneurial journey?
We met while building start ups for the Digital Ventures arm of Boston Consulting Group. Motivated by our experiences building software for smallholder farmers in Indonesia and launching Leaders for Climate Action in Australia, we set out to support the need for high quality supply of natural capital projects.
- Why Natural Capital?
There are a number of factors that signal opportunities to create long term value from natural capital investing. Driven by the challenges of climate change and loss of biodiversity, investors are increasingly looking for ways to transition towards investment solutions that accelerate the transition to a net zero, nature and climate resilient future.
Cecil is the Aconex for natural capital projects, providing collaboration software and data tools to improve project outcomes. We strongly believe unified data and customer experiences will provide the foundations for global natural capital markets to operate at scale.
Over the next 5 years, policy changes and social pressures will drive US$5 trillion of climate finance into restoration of natural ecosystems. Investors need to diversify their portfolios, increase climate resilience, and accelerate their transition towards net zero.
- Why is important for you to support the Climate Tech Community, sponsoring the inaugural Climate Tech Showcase and Awards?
The people - Our purpose driven company has attracted a world class team of product builders from start ups and big tech organisations seeking opportunities in climate tech and applying their skillset to the existential issue of our time.
"Beyond our ambitions to build a global natural capital platform, we're determined to encourage others to work in climate tech and apply their skillset to the existential issue of our time," says Alex Logan, Co-founder and CEO. "The talent market is looking for more than a nine to five job, they want to work with purpose and contribute to change."
- What's next for Cecil Earth?
We continue to learn by supporting our existing customers every day and we’ll be making exciting product announcements soon.
We’re here for collaboration. Climate resilience is not a winner takes all ecosystem. The market will need to work closely with different stakeholders to solve this problem and be successful. When one climate tech company does well, we share that success. Which is why we’re more than happy to support the showcase and awards. - Alex Logan
